DIY Hagrid Costume

Mr M's been working on growing a beard, so we incorporated that into his Hagrid costume. The costume itself was pretty easy to put together. The hardest part was finding a coat that would work. Some of the other pieces he already had, a few pieces I found at Goodwill, and the finishing touches came from the dollar store and wally world.

The costume pieces:
Acromantula: a large dollar store spider that I safety-pinned to the shoulder of the coat.

Long Brown Coat: Mr M shops in the big and tall section, so you can't just go out and get a long coat for someone his size. While his size did make him more believable as Hagrid, it also made it harder to find a coat that would work. In the end, after lots of googling around, I found this brown duster on eBay that's only a little small on him.

Brown Pants: brown canvas pants Mr M already owned.

Chunky Brown Shoes: Doc Martens Mr M has owned for years.

Pink Umbrella: found at wally world, Sunshine has already claimed it as hers now that Halloween is over.

Belt: just a black belt Mr M already owned.

Brown Shirt: a long sleeve brown henley style shirt I found at Goodwill.

Black Vest: a black pullover sweater from Goodwill that I turned into a vest by cutting the sleeves off and cutting down the middle of the chest and hemming the cut edges.

Beard: homegrown, or a wig would work if you don't have the time/inclination to grow a beard.

I'm super happy with how the costume turned out, and I anticipate him wearing it again in the future.
