The previous owners put a cat flap in the door to the basement. Since we keep the basement door shut so River can't tumble down the stairs, he's gotten in the habit of using the cat flap as a window to see if anyone's in the basement. It's not uncommon to see him crawl past the basement door, pause, and look in the window to see what's going on. Now that he's walking, he has to crouch down, but he still does it.
In all reality, though, we use it as a window too, to make sure we don't open the door and smack into anyone. Safer all around :)
