before the race and still clean
Saturday the kids and I did a 1 mile color run. We did a color run a few years ago and I think they're rather gross, but at the same time I kind of felt like my 40 by 40 goal had to have a color run in the mix. This year I actually missed that color run because of another race I ran, so when I came across this one, I decided to add it to my race schedule. And I also hoped a one mile color run would be a little less yucky than a 5k color run. That point is debatable since I think there were just as many (or more) color stations in the one mile run, just a lot closer together. Ah well.
River ran ahead at one point, then turned around to wave at me. too cute!
Since River has been doing so well with our hikes, I decided to sign him up for the race along with Sunshine and me. This is the first race he's run, and he's got the t-shirt to prove it :) He didn't run the whole thing, but he did run a good amount of it- he really did a great job.
since I was pushing the stroller the color throwers were careful and I didn't get too dirty
Ocean got a smidge on his little toes
River and Sunshine came out the worst
Sunshine's been more motivated to exercise and eat right since starting her gymnastics class because she wants to get strong enough to do all the different activities. So while I hung back with River, Sunshine took off and finished a few minutes before us. This is the first time she's run a race without Mr M or me next to her. I'm so proud of her!
after the race was over, they passed around the leftover colored cornstarch and then had everyone throw it in the air
it looked really cool
though it quickly turned into a gross cloud
River booked it out of there as soon as he realized what was going on
making his escape
River and I completed the race in 18:25. Certainly not my fastest mile time ever, but that wasn't the goal here.
sweet little boy, right?
wouldn't harm a soul, right?
he drank some gatorade and then rubbed his face and eyes with his red cornstarch-covered hands and came out looking like a zombie who'd been munching on someone
Last week's mileage:
Monday- hiked about 2.5 miles in Shenandoah NP
Wednesday- 3.25 miles run/walk on treadmill
Thursday- hiked our local park for the first time in quite awhile. We did a 1.25 mile loop with friends. I wore Ocean on my back, River and their little boy F walked. I hadn't realized how much faster and stronger than River is than when he first started walking during our hikes. The difference between his and F's endurance (it was his first time) was marked. Though in retrospect, River did the hike on Monday without complaining and it was much more strenuous.
Friday- 3.25 miles run/walk on the treadmill
Saturday- 1 mile color run (walked with kiddos)
Total for the week: 11.25 miles
22nd race in 2016
