gorgeous sunset Thanksgiving day
Sunshine's favorite books are the Penderwicks series by Jeanne Birdsall. The books are about a family of girls and the adventures they have as they grow up. Their father is a Latin professor who likes to use Latin phrases around the house. As the girls get older, they take Latin in school so they can understand what he's saying.
One phrase in particular has struck Sunshine's fancy. She made the effort to memorize it and likes to use it whenever she thinks the situation warrants it.
"Mendax, mendax, bracae tuae conflagrant"Which means "liar, liar, pants on fire."
The most frequent recipient of her irate repetition of the phrase is her daddy when she thinks he's fibbing. When he laughs it off, she repeats herself, in an increasingly high pitched and exasperated voice. Which just makes him (and me) laugh more. We're terrible parents :)
